Winners revealed for The Gingerbread Family Trail and Illustrate Illuminate Trail

The winners have been revealed for two fun competitions organised by Southport BID over Christmas.

The BID provided a wide range of fun festive activities during November, December and January, in order to attract families from around the North West to come and shop, eat and play in Southport town centre.

Southport BID ensured the town centre had a large, illuminated Christmas tree in the Town Hall Gardens and Christmas decorations throughout the town centre. The BID also staged events and activities including Southport Gingerbread Trail, the Illustrate Illuminate Trail, a Christmas Grotto, a Frozen themed grotto, Christmas carriage rides, and more.

The Southport Gingerbread Trail and Illustrate Illuminate were fun ways for families to discover figures throughout Southport town centre, with those taking part invited to submit their entries with the chance to win iPads.

Congratulations to Paddy Bradley and Holly Struthers, who were selected at random as winners.

Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said:

“We would like to thank everyone who took part in our fun competitions this year. Congratulations to our two winners!

“Local business owners have been giving us their feedback, telling us how popular the trails have been and how they have helped to increase business.

“Southport is a magical place to be over the Christmas season and the two trails were a great way for people to discover everything that the town centre has to offer.”

Southport town centre businesses involved in the trails included: The Grand, The Atkinson, Lavish Home, Cake Creations, Cats Protection, Chris Maerevoet, Plaza Cards, Waterstones, Over The Moon Kids Boutique,  Caffe Dolce, ASDA, and Southport Market.

Southport’s Gingerbread Trail saw figures boasting names from all around the world

Southport BID worked with pupils and staff at Holy Trinity Primary School in Southport to come up with the names, in languages including Polish, Romanian, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Latvian and Malayalam.

For the first time, the Illustrate Illuminate Trail saw Southport BID inviting children to draw their best festive designs.

They were then submitted to local lighting and Christmas decorating firm IlllumiDex UK Ltd, which manufactured bespoke Christmas decorations. They included penguins, reindeer and other designs.

One of the winners, Paddy Bradley, enjoying the trail.
