Southport BID is inviting local businesses to share their views on new proposals to make the area around Southport Railway Station safer for visitors and a more pleasant environment for shoppers.
Sefton Council’s Anti Social Behaviour Unit is proposing to introduce a Public Spaces Protection for Southport Railway Station and the surrounding area in Southport town centre.
The move is due to ongoing anti-social behaviour in the area.
The Sefton Antisocial Behaviour Unit is keen to hear what local businesses and residents think, to help them to tackle the problem and to make Southport Railway Station “a safer and nicer place to visit and travel”.
The Prohibitions proposed are:
- Not to consume alcohol in designated public spaces in order to prevent anti-social behaviour which has a detrimental effect on the quality of life in the specified areas in the geographical areas as listed
- Not to congregate in groups of more than two people if an authorised officer believes that the grouping could lead to anti-social behaviour or low-level crime
- Not to use offensive and or aggressive language that may have a detrimental effect upon other users within the designated areas
- Not to use the area to defecate or urinate
The Designated area is proposed as: Within Southport Railway Station; Southport Railway Station Car Park; and roads adjacent to the railway station which include Chapel Street, Tulketh Street, London Road and including Lord Street.
Sefton Council Anti Social Behaviour Unit would like to know what local businesses think about the proposals before they are put into place.
