Southport BID is asking people to join them in celebrating this year’s ‘Independents’ Day’ – by highlighting your favourite local independent businesses in the town.

This year’s campaign takes place on Saturday 2nd – Sunday 3rd July 2022 with a number of local events taking place.

Independents’ Day takes place each year to support independent retailers across the UK.

It is a campaign that exists to support and promote independent retail businesses all year round, but with an annual focus on the first weekend in July.

Southport Bijou Cinema is asking other Indies if they would like to set a stall up or advertise at the cinema over the weekend.  They will also be showing ‘Independence Day’, and ‘Love, Sarah’ to further celebrate the Independent theme.

Independents account for around 65% of the approximately 290,000 retail outlets in the UK and are at the heart of local communities throughout the country.

Independent businesses offer superb choice, diversity of product and service, tradition as well as innovation, and a personal service to customers. They are also job creators and contributors to local and national economies. And with retail spending under pressure, never have they needed our support more.

Southport BID Business Engagement Manager Luke Randles said: “Independent businesses have never been more important to our town centres and high streets, and it’s incredibly important that local residents  and visitors to can discover something unique when they explore Southport.  Our vibrant community of Southport Indies offer fantastic customer experiences, and products and offerings that you certainly won’t find online.”

Local people are also invited to take part in Independents’ Day by sharing pictures of your favourite local businesses and promoting what they do. Please post through social media and connect with others using the hashtag #ukindieday and get the word out this year.
