A number of venues in Southport town centre operate the Ask for Angela scheme. This means you can discreetly ask for help and assistance. Just ask a member of staff for ‘Angela’.

Spiking
Spiking can make you seriously ill. The signs you should look out for in yourself or someone you are with include, confusion and disorientation, nausea and vomiting, hallucinations and paranoia, poor co-ordination and vision, an inability to communicate clearly, and memory loss and blackouts.
If you feel unwell, get medical help as soon as possible by calling 999 or 111. Ask the people you are with or the staff in a venue to help you access medical help.
Stalking and Harassment
Stalking and harassment is when someone repeatedly behaves in a way that makes you feel scared, distressed or threatened.
Children and Young People
Do you have a concern about a child or young person? If something doesn’t seem right, it might not be. It’s always better to be sure.
The signs of child exploitation can include
- Travelling alone, particularly in school hours, late at night or frequently
- Looking lost or in unfamiliar surroundings
- Anxious, frightened, angry or displaying other behaviours that make you worried about them
- In possession of more than one phone
- Carrying lots of cash
- Potentially under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Being instructed or controlled by another individual
- Accompanied by individuals who are older than them
- Seen begging in a public space
