Southport BID have appointed three new Directors to their board following their annual AGM on the 14th of November.
Following the retirement of several Board Members, as required each year, businesses from the BID area registered to vote, elected three new members to the Board: Kevin Horton, Owner of K2 Architects, Ian Pollitt – Assistant Project Director at Peel Land and Property and Julian Burgess, business owner at Tap & Bottles.
Ian, a Southport resident of over 14 years, worked previously as the Chief Executive of Prince’s Dock Development Company. Ian is currently Assistant Project Director for Liverpool Waters which is a £5 billion regeneration project on Liverpool’s waterfront. Ian works with local stakeholders in the community in North Liverpool, recently being awarded Local Hero status for his partnership work with City of Liverpool College. Ian has joined the BID Board due to a desire to bring all his skills and experience in redevelopment to make a real difference to the town he loves and calls home
Kevin, also from Southport, worked as a key part of the team that delivered the Stirling Prize short listed Liverpool ONE project and went on to build his architectural practice from the ground upwards. In the last 3 years his firm has delivered £43m of built work mainly focused on retail, education and leisure.
Kevin brings with him a wealth of innovation and experience, to drive forward the strategic agenda of the Board. He shares Southport’s vision and ambition to improve the Town Centre for all – making it a cleaner, safer and thriving environment for its residents and 9 million visitors each year.
Kevin says of the role: “I want to lead a single vision for the future of Southport. On paper, Southport should be doing better, and it can do better. My view is that we should be focusing on making it a progressive city region suburb, focusing on why the town was built in the first place. Play to its unique strengths and map our ideas around them. Today we have nearly a dozen golf courses, a competition grade sailing lake, the flattest triathlon in the UK, stunning ornamental parks, and a beach that I run on every day. Look beyond the empty shop units, the town is brimming with possibilities”
Southport BID’s Board is lead by interim Chair Susannah Porter, owner of Remedy and Chair of Southport’s Pub Watch. Susannah is excited for the future of Southport and the direction of the BID as it begins it’s second term. “At the AGM the Board Directors met with local businesses to discuss our vision for our town as a Tourism Destination. We all agreed how important it is that we remain positive about our beautiful town to encourage visitors to keep on coming to the town – the new Board will work closely with local businesses, Sefton MBC, regional stakeholders, and national bodies to gain as much as possible to aid the regeneration of our town. We want everyone to get involved and #standupforsouthport.”
All the Board Directors are unpaid, non-executive Directors who give their time and skills with no payment in return.
